HID iCLASS Card Compatibility with HID iCLASS Programmers and Encoders

1) Configured and programmed iCLASS cards (HID Part Number 2xxxPxxxx)
With this type of iCLASS card, the HID access control application (Page 0 App 1) typically does not need to be encoded.
However, if a non-HID access control application needs to be encoded, such as the Bioscrypt V-Smart application, a programmer is required because the entire card is secured with the HID site key, and only a programmer can encode or authenticate with the HID site key.

2) Configured and non-programmed iCLASS cards (HID Part Number 2xxxCxxxx)
With this type of iCLASS card, you typically need to encode either the HID access control application, or a non-HID access control application such as the Bioscrypt V-Smart application. A programmer is required because the entire card is secured with the HID site key, and only a programmer can encode or authenticate with the HID site key.

3) Non-configured and non-programmed iCLASS cards (HID Part Number 2xxxNxxxx)
With this type of iCLASS card, if you need to encode the HID access control application with the HID site key, a programmer is required.
If you need to encode the HID access control application with the Lenel site key, or a custom site key, either a programmer or an encoder can be used.

Note: If you are encoding a non-HID access control application, such as the Bioscrypt V-Smart application, the specific memory configuration must be indicated in the smart card format itself. This is done in the Card Formats folder. From System Administration, select the Card Formats from the Administration menu.
- If the chosen memory configuration contains a (Custom Key), either a programmer or an encoder can be used.
- If the chosen memory configuration does not contain a (Custom Key), then a programmer is required.
