What is a Duress Code?
Answer
A duress code is an emergency feature available only when the reader is in card and PIN mode, and only if the reader has been configured in the access control system to use the duress feature. If a person presents their badge to the reader and enters their duress code, an alarm is triggered and sent to the alarm panel. The duress code is used in situations where immediate attention is required at the reader location. For example if a potential intruder forces an employee to use their badge to grant access into the building.
Important: If a duress code is entered, an alarm will be sent to Alarm Monitoring. Access to the reader may be denied as an option set at the reader.
To use the duress code:
1. Swipe or present the badge to the reader.
2. Enter the duress code, and then press #.

Lenel readers:
The user’s normal PIN with a one added to the last digit. For example, if the user’s normal PIN is 255 then the duress code is 256. If the user’s normal PIN is 259 then his duress code is 250.
Important: If a duress code is entered, an alarm will be sent to Alarm Monitoring. Access to the reader may be denied as an option set at the reader.

Reverse the last two digits of the PIN. For example, if the user’s normal PIN is 259 then the duress code is 295.
Fingerprint (Bioscrypt):
An alternate finger can be configured to trigger sending a duress alarm to Alarm Monitoring.
