Symptom
When starting Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, the following error message appears: "Input string was not in a correct format."
Resolution
To resolve this issue, follow the steps below.Always back up your Registry before doing any edits. Incorrect edits can impact usability or performance on the PC. See Microsoft.com for instructions on how to perform the backup.
1) Click Start and then select Run. Type regedit and click [OK] to open Registry Editor.
2) Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International registry key.
3) Double-click the sPositiveSign string to open the Edit String dialog.
4) Delete the value in the Value Data field and enter a value of "a".
5) Click [OK] to apply this change.
6) Double-click the sPositiveSign string to open the Edit String dialog again.
7) Delete the value in the Value Data field.
8) Click [OK] to apply this change.
9) Exit Registry Editor.
10) Start Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio; the error message should no longer appear.
SQL Server 2005 Express
1) Click Start and then select Run. Type regedit and click [OK] to open Registry Editor.
2) Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International registry key.
3) Double-click the sPositiveSign string to open the Edit String dialog.
4) Delete the value in the Value Data field and enter a value of "a".
5) Click [OK] to apply this change.
6) Double-click the sPositiveSign string to open the Edit String dialog again.
7) Delete the value in the Value Data field.
8) Click [OK] to apply this change.
9) Exit Registry Editor.
10) Start Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio; the error message should no longer appear.
